Why Health Is Important, and How You Can Take Care of It

Your health, in a way, is one of the few things that are truly important in life. You must protect it by making the right decisions. Taking care of one’s health is something that one should do in order to live the happiest, most pain-free life.

Diet is one of the most obvious things that you should take care of. If you do not have the right diet for many years, you may end up in a hospital bed, hooked up to a Baxter Smart IV Pump and different types of machinery. Diet can make or break you because what you put into your body can wear away your organs and/or seriously affect your body chemistry. Red meats, cheeses and butters have the reputation of clogging arteries and adding on the pounds. You should opt for healthier foods, such as vegetables, fruits and plant-based oils. However, some plant based oils may be better than others. If you do eat unhealthy stuff, eat those things in moderation, or extreme moderation. Consuming too many sugary things—especially things with added sugar—can give you diabetes. Avoid added sugars.

Exercise is also something else that is important for health. The human body is not supposed to sit still; it is supposed to move around. Exercising helps to maintain muscle mass and bone mass. When you exercise, the muscles pull on the bones, and the bones are stimulated to grow and thicken. Exercise helps to build muscle. As you grow old, your muscles tend to diminish quicker and grow back slower. The bones are the same way. It is important to tend to muscle and bone growth because if you grow old and have weak bones, you can easily have life-changing events where you break bones and are immobilized.

Not doing drugs and alcohol in excess is also another way to take care of one’s health. These things wear down various organs such as the live, kidney, pancreas and other body parts. They also affect people’s emotional health by creating personalities ravaged by addiction and desperation. Drugs that are injected can result in blood diseases such as hepatitis and HIV. Even if a person does not share needles, he/she can get hepatitis from injecting drugs—especially if the needle has been used before by him/her. Some drugs can come from “bad batches” and kill people. Other drugs can be sketchy research chemicals that harm people’s bodies.

You should also think about other types of health, such as emotional health and social health. These types of health feed into physical health and into each other. Not having good emotional health can lead to physical manifestations of unhealthiness. It can also lead some people to make poor decisions that affect their physical health. People have social needs, and not socializing within the proper context can be unhealthy. It can directly affect emotional health and make people depressed, frustrated and lonely. There are different social needs that people have. These include: the need to talk to close friends, the need to talk to family, the need the have a significant other and the need to feel like part of a community.
